Sweetspot, what more can I say? It's a lovely little gem right in my own backyard. They have so many varieties of exotic plants, some I've never even heard of, and others I didn't even know existed. It's like you learn something new every day! They have a really nice little greenhouse with a lot of plants from everywhere, and it's just a really nice place if you want to meditate and get into nature. The best part is you don't have to go far, so go take a stroll, check it out, and spread the word about Lake Merritt's best-kept secret gem!π₯°Be sure to check their schedule for the Garden Center buildingβthey host great public events, floral exhibits, and shows in that space."love the annual Dahlia show which I think they should change to the doctor sous show, because those plants look so much like out of like something that Dr Sue's made in who's ville It's amazing.

Such a nice area. Beautiful historical plaques that talked about all the different gardens. Good date place to walk around or even to go alone. They do close around 3 so plan to go early.

An absolute gem of the East Bay and within Oakland's crown jewel park. Any plant lover and admirer of nature would enjoy this calm and peaceful slice of Oakland. From the community garden, fragrant garden, succulent garden, palm tree forest, and super cool rock garden- there is a garden for everyone. My favorite garden is like a hidden garden within gardens - The Rhododendron garden is an absolute treasure with rarer garden specialties that are beautiful and very fragrant (Vireya!). The garden and park are well kept given the constraints of budgeting and volunteer maintenance. I can see how some parts of the garden need repair and replacement but you can definitely see the hard work and talent it takes to upkeep the gardens. There are event spaces that seem to open up for plant sales or shows at some point. Overall, a must visit if you like nature and are at Lake Merritt.

These "gardens" need a tremendous amount of work & would benefit highly from some significant donations. The Japanese fountains were strategically designed & still look great. With all the tech money floating around in Berkeley, seems like a few major donors could really help them out & support the dedicated volunteers they have. We did enjoy our visit and found some lovely plants to suggest to local family for landscaping purposes.
